Lorann Stallones

Lorann Stallones is a professor of epidemiology in the Department of Psychology at Colorado State University and the director of the Colorado School of Public Health at CSU, part of the collaborative Colorado School of Public Health. She was selected as a Professor Laureate in the College of Natural Sciences in 2011. She received the Faculty Excellence in Research Award from the Colorado School of Public Health in 2011 and has been recognized for her contribution to international education at CSU in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Stallones is nationally and internationally recognized as an occupational epidemiologist who has studied health issues among agricultural workers. Her research has focused on traumatic agricultural injuries, suicide among farmers and the relationship between pesticide exposures, mood disorders and adverse neurobehavioral outcomes. She has published with colleagues from Costa Rica, China, Iran, New Zealand and South Africa. Recently, she's been working with a team of graduate and undergraduate students to evaluate the role of mindfulness in the workplace from a number of different perspectives, including improving safety among hospital staff nurses and among employees working in hospice care.

In 2005, an article she published was selected by the Editor of the Journal of Agromedicine as one of the best articles in first ten years of publishing the journal. That same year, she received a research award from the National Institute for Farm Safety for major contributions to the prevention of farm injuries for an article published in Injury Prevention. In 201, Stallones was selected as the peer reviewer of the year by the editor of the Journal of Agromedicine for the thoroughness, scientific accuracy, clarity, respectfulness, guidance, constructiveness and timeliness of her reviews.

Stallones has served on numerous grant review panels for organizations including the British Columbia Health Foundation, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Academy of Sciences, the Howard Hughes Medical Foundation and the National Institutes of Health. She served on the National Academy of Sciences Evaluation Committee to review the Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Research Program of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health. She's a Fellow in the American College of Epidemiology and also served as president.

Stallones earned her Ph.D. in epidemiology and M.P.H. in international health from the University of Texas School of Public Health, Houston, and received her bachelor's degree in cultural anthropology at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
