Professor Lucy Montgomery is the Dean of Research in the Faculty of Humanities at Curtin University, a Professor in the School of Media, Creative Arts, and Social Inquiry, and Program Lead for Innovation in Knowledge Communication Research in the Centre for Culture and Technology.

From 2018 to 2025, she founded and co-led the Curtin Open Knowledge Initiative (COKI), a groundbreaking project combining big data with critical humanities perspectives to explore universities as Open Knowledge Institutions.

With a PhD in Media and Communications, Professor Montgomery is a leading expert in open knowledge and digital scholarship. Her work on transforming knowledge production has earned accolades including the IFLA Brill Award for Open Access (2014) and the Curtin Commercial Innovation Award (2015).

She serves on multiple advisory boards and is Chair of the Scientific Committee for the Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB).
