For 37 years, I have been developing scientific work on the physico-chemical interactions between solid phases and solutes in water: sorption, ion exchange, stability of colloidal solutions and flocculation. The application of this work is organized around unit operations in water treatment, with applications in drinking water production, wastewater treatment and environmental reactions in natural waters. Over the last 6 years, we have been developing work on plants with natural flocculent properties, with strong environmental implications in terms of substituting synthetic products or metals. This fundamental work, combined with a desire to transfer our knowledge, has enabled us to identify the key issues in this technology.
