Mohammad Reza Farzanegan

Mohammad Reza Farzanegan is Professor of Economics of the Middle East at Philipps-Universität Marburg, affiliated with the Center for Near and Middle Eastern Studies (CNMS) and the School of Business and Economics. His research lies at the intersection of political economy and development, with a particular focus on Iran. He has published widely on sanctions, corruption, conflict, institutions, and natural resource rents in leading academic journals.

Farzanegan is a Research Fellow at the CESifo Network in Munich and the Economic Research Forum (ERF) in Cairo. He serves on the editorial boards of several academic outlets and acts as an advisor to research institutions and policy initiatives. He is the Executive Secretary of the International Iranian Economic Association (IIEA) and a board member of the Middle East Economic Association. In addition, he chairs the ERF Advisory Committee and coordinates the international Master of Science program in Economics of the Middle East (EMEA) at Philipps-Universität Marburg.
