Monica Beeder

Dr. Monica Beeder is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Economics at the University of Southampton. In the fall of 2024, she was a Visiting Postdoctoral Fellow at the Max Planck Institute in Freiburg, Germany, working within the research group Behavioral Economics of Crime and Conflict. She holds a PhD in Economics from the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH), where she was affiliated with FAIR, the Chr. Michelsen Institute, and the Development Learning Lab.
Her research lies at the intersection of development economics, conflict economics, the economics of crime, exploitation, and radicalization. She works on topics including cocaine production and violence in Colombia, ethnic identity and discrimination in Ethiopia, military drones and radicalization in African contexts, and broader questions related to the exploitation of workers.
