Nikk Effingham

I am Professor of Philosophy and Head of the Department at the University of Birmingham. My research interests include metaphysics, the philosophy of religion, and the philosophy of science.

I have recently completed a monograph on the philosophy of time travel, in which I argue that, although time travel may be logically possible, even if it were physically feasible, we should never expect it to occur. In the book, I explore the strange and intriguing consequences of this position.

Beyond time travel, I have worked on broader topics within the philosophy of time and persistence, as well as on the metaphysics of properties, objects, location, and parthood. In the philosophy of religion, I have written papers on the problem of evil, pantheism, Christian philosophical theology, and reincarnation. I am currently affiliated with the John Templeton Foundation's 'Global Philosophy of Religion' project.
