Niloofar Hooman is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Communication Studies & Media Arts at McMaster University, Canada, where she is also pursuing a joint Graduate Diploma in Gender Studies and Feminist Research. Niloofar holds a Ph.D. in Communication (2019) from the University of Tehran. Her research encompasses theories of new media, digital activism, feminism, and online gender-based violence, as well as critical studies of marginalized bodies. Her work has been published in New Media & Society, The International Journal of the Image, LGBTQ Digital Culture; A Global Perspective, The #MeToo Movement in Iran; Reporting Sexual Violence and Harassment, and in a popular media outlet, The Conversation.
