I completed my PhD at the University of Sydney in 2015, before working as a Research Fellow at Yale University from 2015-2018. In 2018 I returned to Australia to take up a fellowship from the Australian Research Council at the University of Melbourne. My work focuses on the evolution of complex structures in vertebrates with particular focus on the placenta. The placenta is particularly interesting because it has evolved multiple times independently across vertebrates including in mammals (like ourselves) and reptiles (such as the blue tongue lizard). These independent origins provide a fascinating opportunity to examine the processes involved in the evolution of new organs.
