Paola Vargas Arana

I am an early modernist by training, with a research profile encompassing indigenous African epistemologies in the construction of the Americas, the formation of maroon communities around food sovereignty, and African intellectual history, with a particular focus on the contributions of African women.
I have expertise in grant management and my research interests include expanding collaborations, particularly with scholars from Africa, and projects that empower women.
I have held two postdoctoral fellowships: a British Academy Newton International Fellowship at King's College London and a fellowship at the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities, University of Edinburgh. Additionally, I have been a visiting researcher at the Centre of History, University of Lisbon.
