Paul Cowell

I am a Senior Lecturer in Economics and Deputy Associate Dean of Learning and Teaching at the Stirling Management School at the University of Stirling. I am also the co-director of the BA (Hons) Economics degree programme and am the Undergraduate Advisor of Studies. I am a Senior Fellow of Advance HE (SFHEA) and also a contributor to the CORE Economics project.

My primary research interest is in the economics of higher education. Specifically, I am interested in the accessibility of higher education, policy evaluation, and determinants of subject choice.

I am particularly interested in using policy evaluation methods - such as Regression Discontinuity Design (RDD), Difference-in-Differences (DD) and Propensity Score Matching (PSM) - to analyse both education and labour market policies.

I have a secondary interest in the economics of languages, and the job market effects of bilingual schooling.

I am passionate about higher education in both my research and my teaching, and I regularly contribute to the development and evaluation of pedagogy across the University. I am also research active in the nexus of behavioural economics, pedagogy, and education economics. I am particularly interested in analysing policies through natural experiments and estimating treatment effects.
