Professor Paul X. McCarthy is a research leader and author specialising in computational social science. He applies advanced data analytics to economics, psychology and history to understand global innovation.

McCarthy is the CEO of League of Scholars and a co-founder of the Science of Startups initiative at the University of Oxford. This research has achieved worldwide success and has been featured in The Economist, The Times and Fast Company.

Currently, McCarthy also serves as a co-founder of Black Belt Global Venture Studio in Tokyo and holds academic positions as an Adjunct Professor at UNSW and an Industry Fellow at the UTS Data Science Institute.

Previously, he advised CSIRO’s Data61 and led strategy for SIRCA. He is the author of Online Gravity, a global bestseller on the economics of information.
