Peter Underwood

Dr Peter Underwood is a Senior Lecturer at Auckland Law school. Before joining the University of Auckland, Peter was a Lecturer in Law at Exeter Law School in the UK where he taught Company Law, Principles of Corporate Law, Contract Law, Property Law and Jurisprudence. Whilst at Exeter he was the Co-Director for the Research Centre for Commercial and Company Law. He has a PhD from the University of Exeter (UK), an LL.M from the University of Law, Bristol (UK) and an LL.B from Nottingham Law School (UK). He joined Auckland Law school in 2024.

Peter's research interests are in the field of Corporate Law with a particular interest in Corporate Governance. He has investigated the tensions between shareholder capitalism and stakeholder capitalism and has written on this. His monograph titled Corporate Group Legitimacy explored the power dynamics of within large multi-national corporations seeking to evaluate the legitimacy of wielding significant power. Peter's is also interested in the role of Technology and what corporate law can gain from technological advances and what corporate law can offer technology. He is open to research collaborations and research supervision in these fields

Peter teaches Corporate Governance on the LLB Program.
