Phoebe S. Moore

Phoebe S. Moore is a clinical psychologist and Associate Professor in the Departments of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Pediatrics at the University of Massachusetts Chan School of Medicine, where she serves as Vice Chair for Psychology.

She earned her PhD in psychology from UCLA and completed an NIH-funded postdoctoral fellowship in child and adolescent anxiety disorders at Stanford University Medical Center.

For more than two decades, Dr. Moore's clinical and research work has centered on anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorders in children and adolescents, evidence-based psychosocial treatments, and the role families play in youth mental health. She has contributed to major multi-site treatment studies, including the NIH-funded Pediatric OCD Treatment Studies, and has published widely on cognitive-behavioral and family-focused interventions for young people.

Her current scholarship focuses on the rapidly evolving intersection of artificial intelligence and mental health, including the safe and ethical use of AI chatbots by adolescents and the clinical implications of AI companion tools. She recently co-authored clinical guidelines on adolescent AI chatbot use in the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

At UMass Chan, she founded and leads the Division of Psychology. She also leads faculty career development and coaching programs. She also maintains a clinical practice treating anxiety, OCD, and related disorders across the lifespan.
