R.V. Gundur studies organised crime including gangs, financial crime, cybercrime, and illicit enterprise. He holds degrees in International Relations, Spanish, and Criminology. He is the author of Trying to Make It: The Enterprises, People, and Gangs of the American Drug Trade on Cornell University Press.

He is an Honorary Research Fellow at the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social & Economic Studies (Salises), at the University of the West Indies.
