Rachel Herring

Rachel Herring is a funded PhD student at Aston University and the University of Birmingham. Her research focuses on German foreign policy and Germany’s relations with Central Europe.

She gained a BA in History and German from the University of Oxford, an MA in German Translation and Professional Language Skills from the University of Bath, and an MSc in Social Science from Aston University.

Her current PhD research is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council and explores Polish-German and Czech-German relations, with a specific focus on the role of civil society actors, organisations and networks in foreign relations. In 2024 she was the Think Visegrad fellow at the Institute for International Relations in Prague, where she carried out a research project on the role of think tanks, the media and other non-state actors in Czech-German and Polish-German relations.
