Rebecca Ellis

Dr. Rebecca Ellis is a sessional instructor who has taught the Introduction to the Human Environment, World Regional Geography, and Landscapes and Peoples of Canada’s North courses at Algoma University. She is also a professor of Environmental Sustainability at Mohawk College. Her PhD dissertation, “Pollinator People: An ethnography of bees, bee advocates and possibilities for multispecies commoning in Toronto and London, ON”, examined the entangled and embodied relationship between people and urban bees. Her book Capitalist Agriculture and the Global Bee Crisis (Routledge Press, 2022) is a political ecology of pollination, with a focus on how bees are embedded within the global agricultural system. Her research interests include animal geographies, political ecology, commons and commoning, and sustainable food systems.
