Prof Murray researchs marine water quality, particularly in relation to harmful algal blooms which produce toxins that can have severe detrimental impacts on fisheries, aquaculture, and marine ecosystems. Her research uses molecular genetic methods to investigate marine ecology, evolution, and toxicity, and develop genetic tools for the monitoring of microalgae and marine pathogens based on the unique genetic processes of these organisms.
