Shelly Butcher

I'm a wildlife veterinarian and PhD candidate at the University of Queensland, where I study onygenalean fungal diseases threatening wild reptile populations. My passion for wildlife medicine began during my veterinary training at the University of Adelaide, and has taken me from mixed practice in far north Queensland to a residency in zoo and wildlife health at Massey University in New Zealand, where I completed a Master of Veterinary Studies in conservation medicine. I continue to work as a clinical wildlife veterinarian in South East Queensland, and my research focuses on understanding and combating emerging fungal threats to reptiles, work that's crucial for preserving biodiversity in an era of increasing wildlife disease challenges.
