Stéphane Trombotto

Dr. Stéphane Trombotto is Associate Professor of chemistry at the University of Lyon 1 (France) and researcher at the Polymer Materials Engineering Laboratory (IMP, UMR CNRS 5223).
He spent two years (2001-2003) at the University of Hull (England) in the Prof. J.W. Goodby’s group as postdoctoral researcher in liquid crystals and advanced organic materials. In 2001, he successfully defended a PhD thesis entitled "Preparation of carboxylate compounds from sucrose, isomaltulose and trehalulose” at the University of Lyon. During his PhD project, he worked at the Béghin-Say R&D department in Lyon, under the supervision of Prof. Gérard Descotes and Dr. Yves Queneau. He is also engineer in chemistry from the “Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie” in Montpellier since 1996.
His research activities focus on the chemical synthesis and the physicochemical analyse of well-defined oligo- and poly-saccharide materials, for applications in wide range of fields from microelctronics to biomedicine. His area of expertise is the extraction of chitin from renewable raw materials and the production of chitosans from oligomers to polymers with a perfect control of structural parameters, the regioselective chemical functionalization of chitosan polymers and oligomers and the physicochemical analysis of chitosan materials.
He is a member of the European Chitin Society and has co-authored of more than 50 scientific articles in international peered-reviewed journals (H-index 19) and 6 patents in the field of the carbohydrate materials.
