Stephanie Northen

Stephanie Northen is a PhD researcher at the University of Portsmouth (UK), specialising in marine microplastic pollution. She holds an MRes in Science & Health with a focus on marine coastal habitat ecology in UK harbours and a BSc in Marine Biology. Now in the second year of her PhD, Stephanie’s research investigates how climate change factors and environmental weathering processes impact the fragmentation rates of different plastics in marine environments.

Stephanie has been a Research Associate with the Revolution Plastics Institute and Global Plastics Policy Centre for the last 4 years - dedicated to innovative, multi-disciplinary, solutions-focused research that supports government, industry, public, and academic sectors to address the complex social, economic, and environmental impacts of plastics. Stephanie has co-led a variety of mission-driven projects, including citizen science initiatives, policy analysis, reuse systems, and community engagement efforts aimed at reducing plastic pollution at local and global levels.
