My work spans land, welfare, the state, agrarian change and the idea of development. My current work looks at the anxieties displayed by the welfare state when confronted with demands for land by the landless. This research explores the limits of the welfare state in neoliberal development, especially when citizens who are struggling to survive demand social and political control over land rather than social security schemes. In addition to this work, my research interests also lie in local governance, feminist and queer theory and Indian politics.
