Suzy Miller

Dr. Suzy Miller is a counselling psychologist, academic, and Course Director of the Master of Counselling program, with research interests in the role of motivation and psychological needs in everyday experiences, particularly within the framework of Self-Determination Theory (SDT). Her work on music listening and wellbeing examines how music supports autonomy, competence, and relatedness, contributing to both individual wellbeing and social connection. Suzy also investigates place attachment, exploring how the environments people inhabit shape motivation, identity, and flourishing.

In addition to her interests in everyday motivation and wellbeing, she conducts research on the development of counsellor and psychologist professional identity, with a particular focus on skills training, reflective practice, and the cultivation of therapeutic competencies. Her work bridges theory and practice, supporting the growth of students and early-career practitioners, and informs curriculum design and pedagogy within professional training programs.
