Sydney Giacalone

I am an environmental anthropologist working at the intersection of political ecology, food systems, and American rurality. My current book project draws from 16 months of ethnography with 72 "ex-conventional" multigenerational farmers in the US South and Midwest transitioning towards environmentally reparative techniques and reckoning with the culturally contentious nature of these changes in rural America. I received my PhD from Brown University in Anthropology, and I am now a postdoctoral fellow teaching and continuing my research at the University of Virginia.
