Tim’s research interests include insect evolution, taxonomy, molecular phylogenetics and biogeography.
His research to date has focused on phylogenetics, evolution and biogeography, mainly in insects and crustaceans.
His PhD research investigated questions such as: why do termites build mounds? Where did Australian termites come from? What are the patterns of relatedness among termites in a colony?
He has also worked on using DNA barcoding tools to analyse mammal diets from their feces, and identify sugarcane pest moths.
