I am a professor of strength and conditioning at the University of Limerick. My work centers on strength and conditioning practices and on injury surveillance and injury prevention in rugby union. I co-lead a project called the Irish Rugby Injury Surveillance project that explores the injury profile of amateur male and female rugby players and schoolboy players in Ireland. I have secured funding in excess of €3million and have 80 plus journal publications. I have supervised 13 PhD scholars to completion.
I am also an accredited strength and conditioning coach and have worked with professional rugby players, Olympic and Paralympic athletes. I spent time working in professional rugby with the IRFU and as head of strength and conditioning with Sport Ireland Institute. In addition, I am an Irish Olympian and competed in the 4 x 100m relay in athletics for Ireland at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.
