Tom Pegram

Tom Pegram is Professor of Global Politics in the UCL Department of Political Science and School of Public Policy. He is also Director of the UCL Global Governance Institute and Programme Director for the MSc in Global Governance and Ethics.

Professor Pegram’s research focuses on the institutional dynamics of global governance, human rights, and environmental politics. His work explores how international norms and institutions shape domestic outcomes, with a particular emphasis on the design and performance of national human rights institutions and the governance of complex global risks.

He joined UCL in 2011 following academic positions at Trinity College Dublin, New York University School of Law, and Harvard Law School. He holds a DPhil in Political Science and an MPhil in Latin American Studies from the University of Oxford, and a BScEcon in International Politics with Law from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. He is an Associate Member of Nuffield College, Oxford, and Visiting Lecturer at the Royal College of Defence Studies. At UCL, he has served in a range of departmental and cross-institutional roles and has led major research and engagement initiatives as part of his leadership of the Global Governance Institute.
