Victoria Esses

Dr. Esses has conducted research on immigration and cultural diversity for over 25 years. Her research focuses on immigration policy and practice, including public attitudes toward immigration and cultural diversity; promising practices in settlement and integration; factors promoting the settlement and integration of immigrants; and the measurement of community welcome-ability and immigrant outcomes. Victoria has extensive experience conducting research in these areas, including invited work for federal, provincial, and municipal governments and for the settlement sector. She is a Fellow of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research.

The Pathways to Prosperity Partnership (p2pcanada.ca) is a national alliance of university, community and government partners dedicated to providing an actionable evidence base for immigrant settlement and integration policies and programs in Canada. As the leading immigration research network in Canada, P2P has a proven track record of productivity and effectiveness, integrating academic scholarship with sector expertise and detailed government program knowledge.

The Western Centre for Research on Migration and Ethnic Relations (migration.uwo.ca) facilitates research that draws on academic knowledge to inform public policy and practice on migration and ethnic relations in Canada and internationally. The goals of the Centre are to foster interdisciplinary research among faculty and students, provide training opportunities for students beyond the borders of their own discipline and Western, and forge links with policy makers, the academic community in Canada and internationally, and the community at large.
