Wayne Martindale

Wayne is a Fellow of the Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST) with over 30 years of experience. He has been a leader in sustainability reporting and carbon footprinting within the food industry, playing a key role in the development of early assurance schemes and environmental standards. Driven by a commitment to global food security and innovation, Wayne’s interdisciplinary approach spans a wide range of pioneering projects. Wayne obtained his PhD in photosynthetic biochemistry at the Robert Hill Institute in 1993. He continued his research on marine plants at the University of Florida and later explored photosynthetic inhibitors and protein crystallography. His career path then led him into the fertiliser industry, farming and ultimately to food supply. An accomplished author, Wayne has written two books on food security and published numerous articles on applied science and innovation.
