Xiao Xiao

Dr. Xiao Xiao is a tenured Associate Professor at Fudan University and Executive Director of the Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience Center, with joint appointments at Huashan and Huadong Hospitals.

Her research investigates how emotion interacts with memory, integrating neurobiology, cognitive psychology, and computational approaches to elucidate the neural mechanisms of affective processing and its dysregulation. She is particularly interested in how hippocampal circuits contribute to the formation and modulation of affective memory, and how these processes become disrupted in conditions such as chronic pain and depression. Her work also incorporates data-driven approaches to link neural dynamics with behavioral and visual representations of affective states.

She has published over 40 peer-reviewed articles in leading journals, including Science, Molecular Psychiatry, and Advanced Science, and contributes to major national initiatives such as the China Brain Project. She holds multiple national patents as first inventor and has received several awards, including the GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Tomorrow’s Star Award, the Shanghai Oriental Talent Program, and the Shanghai Science and Technology Rising-Star Award.
