You Zhou

Dr You Zhou a Lecturer in Criminology at School of Law and Justice in University of Newcastle. He is an award-winning scholar specialising in cybercrime, future crimes, and digital policing. He recently completed his doctoral degree at Monash University, where his thesis, Policing Cyber Fraud in China: Challenges, Responses, and Crime Displacement, examined digital policing and transnational cybercrime through interviews with Chinese police officers.

He has published in internationally reputational journals such as Computers in Human Behavior (SJR Top 1%), Law, Innovation and Technology (SJR Top 5%), and Crime & Delinquency (SJR Top 10%). His recent research on metaverse crimes (so-called metacrime) has received global attention and won the Best Paper Award issued by Asian Criminological Society. He also served as the leading guest editor for a special issue on Future Crimes published in Asian Journal of Criminology, which is one of the first criminology special issues exploring the relationships between emerging technologies (e.g., AI), criminalities, and governance.
