Zander Simpson

Zander Simpson is an interdisciplinary researcher and PhD candidate currently working at the intersection of medical anthropology and microbial ecology.

Originally specifically looking at geophagy - the deliberate ingestion of soil - his PhD project is supported by an ESRC studentship and considers how we understand the gut, gut health, and gut microbiome in the UK. Through Grounded Guts, Zander aims to explore how social and ecological anxieties manifest in the gut by paying attention to how people are managing gut health issues outside of clinical or laboratory encounters in the United Kingdom.
