Hellen Agumba

Dr. Hellen is a lecturer in the Department of Education and Curriculum Studies at the University of Johannesburg. With a PhD and Master’s in Education and Curriculum Studies, she has contributed to major projects including TAU Programme and SARIHE, supported by ESRC, NRF, and South Africa’s Department of Higher Education & Training.Her research focuses on higher education learning experiences, particularly among marginalised students, while advocating for social justice. She also explores teacher professional development, curriculum design, policy evaluation, commerce education, and assessment. Her work draws on extensive conceptual, empirical, and methodological resources developed throughout her academic career.
Having published in reputable journals and presented at national and international conferences, Hellen’s dedication to education was recently recognised when she received the University of Johannesburg’s Vice Chancellor’s Distinguished Award for Most Promising Young Teacher of the Year in 2024.
