Sanne Frandsen

I use ethnographic and narrative methods to study identity work, sensemaking, emotions, and change in response to stigma in organizational contexts. I am particularly interested in the dynamics between "who we are" and "who others think we are," as I have found that our identities, both as individuals and as organizations, have an immense influence on how we make sense of our working lives and overcome the hardships we may face.

My research covers a variety of different empirical settings, from scandals in the financial sector to sustainability managers in Swedish corporations—and, most recently, trans women entrepreneurs in Bangladesh. I am fascinated by the living stories among people and how they intersect with societal expectations and the strategic narratives of their organizations. I use narrative methods to observe, research, and facilitate organizational development.

My latest interests include understanding meaningful work, resilience, and burnout in response to sustainability work.
